The physician will have responsibility for a panel of patients in the community living center at the Chillicothe VA and for teaching medicine/family medicine residents about geriatrics. The community living center is a 162 bed facility on a beautiful rural historic campus that was the site of Camp Sherman during World War I. The wards are divided into 4 units-1 that is short stay rehab, 1 that is long term care/hospice, 1 that is dementia, and 1 that is a locked unit for veterans with serious mental illness. We have a robust staff of 4 nurse practitioners and 2 other physicians (myself and another physician).
There is paid vacation, sick days, paid time off and reimbursement for CME. There are many educational opportunities available through the VA, so many that it is impossible to attend all of them. They are free and open to all providers.
We have a terrific multidisciplinary team of providers from many disciplines, including social work, nutrition, recreation therapy, psychology, psychiatry, PT, OT, KT, and speech therapy. There is no on-call responsibility on nights or weekends. We work from 7:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
I have been here for 3 years and absolutely love this job. I love being in one place and being able to provide excellent care to the veterans. I am passionate about the mission and vision of the VA and about helping veterans. We have a fantastic team.
